Weidmann’s role in the circular economy

At Weidmann, we believe that paper and its derivatives are a perfect fit within this emerging economic model.

What is the circular economy?

The circular economy is an alternative to the traditional linear economy where natural resources are used to create goods, which are sold and consumed, often over a short space of time, to finally be disposed of or destroyed. With natural resources becoming more and more scarce, a new economic model is emerging: the circular economy.

The circular economy is founded on the principles of generating a positive cycle by designing products to have minimum waste and pollution, using them for as long as possible to extract maximum value, then recovering and regenerating products and materials at the end of their life. The objective of a circular economy is to optimize the use of natural resources and eliminate waste to lower the impact on the environment.

At Weidmann we put the principles of the circular economy at the heart of our production process.

Weidmann’s role

Carefully selected natural resources

Weidmann source cellulose from sustainably managed forests to optimize the yield of the tree and extend the life span of the fiber. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the world’s most trusted sustainable forest management solution. Based on input from members around the world, the Council establishes standards to ensure environmental, social and economic security. Our raw materials benefit from FSC 100% certification which guarantees the cellulose fiber is virgin.

Keep material in use

Manufacturing paper generates scraps at different stages of production. We do not add chemicals or bleach, ensuring our virgin raw material maintains all of its natural properties. Kept natural, our scraps are only made of cellulose fiber and water, therefore can easily be reintegrated into the production process.

Recover and reuse

End products, when uncoated and untreated, are 100% biodegradable. They qualify to be recovered as “green and non-hazardous waste” and are reused to produce new products. We strive to continually improve our waste management systems.
